4-inch kits are preferable to owners who want a simple visual upgrade. In comparison, 6-inch kits bring performance benefits on the table at their own cost. Regardless, both kits have characteristics that require a discussion.

Then, you need to follow a lead wire here that connects to the actuator. Inspect the wire carefully and check if there are any tears. Sometimes the wires can also be tangled and therefore malfunction. If you see any tangles, try to get the wires straight. 

Lock Switch Causing Door Lock Issue 

The door lock switch might be outdated and no longer functional. This can then cause problems with the automatic door lock.

A lot of people prefer disabling the automatic door lock feature to avoid this issue entirely. 

Contrary to popular belief, yes, you can disable this feature. If you take the vehicle to a registered dealership, they will disable the feature instantly. 

Be careful not to take your vehicle to any third-party shops, since they can charge almost twice as much by claiming that this is illegal. 

In reality, disabling the automatic lock feature is a completely legal procedure given the owner’s consent.

A lot of the time, you might feel helpless. What to do if you’ve lost your Chevy Silverado car keys? How can you run the vehicle for your daily tasks now?

Modern-day cars give you a few options in which you can start the car without the keys. But unfortunately, this is not the case with previous or older models. For example, what happens if you lose a 2001 Chevy Silverado key?

1. Remove Cover

This procedure requires you to first remove the panel that covers the ignition system. You will find this under the steering wheel.

2. Connect And Disconnect The Wires

After the cover has been removed, you can connect the wires of the ignition cylinder with the terminals of the steering column full stop; these are usually red and brown.

Now, you will disconnect the red wire first. This is the main power source of the ignition cylinder.

The third step is to connect the wires back in. You might get better access to the wiring if you remove the plastic cover on the steering column. Once you have found the ignition switch, unscrew the screws that help keep the switch in position.

3. Connect The Battery

To uncover the wire, pull out the excess panels. Then, connect the battery wires with the two wires we talked about in the beginning. This will initiate the hot-wiring process.

You should use a good quality hot wiring kit such as the Triplett 3388 Wire Tracing Kit for the procedure. But we do recommend not doing the hot-wiring procedure at home if you are not 100% sure about your skills as it can electrocute you.

In the past, a lot of people have used a simple screwdriver to start their Chevy Silverado without keys.

One of the most popular methods of starting a Chevy Silverado using the screwdriver is called “jumping the starter”.

For this method, you work on the starter solenoid of the vehicle. This is usually found near the battery. Here, all you have to do is use the screwdriver and tap it on both the negative and positive terminals of the solenoid. Once both ends of the solenoid have been capped with the screwdriver, the process of ignition will start and it will also help send power to the starter solenoid.

After a few seconds, this power will help engage the starter which will then start the engine.

For example, if you plan on inserting the screwdriver directly into the ignition, you need to use a gentle hand. If the screwdriver does not want to go through too easily, which it won’t, don’t lose your patience and try to jam it in. be gentle and patient and work slowly to insert the screwdriver safely into the ignition.

Also, make sure you use a good quality screwdriver such as the Magnetic Ratchet Screwdriver so that you don’t put any scratches in the vehicle.

While this is one of the most effective methods that I will discuss in this article, bump keys are only effective on older models of the Chevy Silverado that do not have a high-end security system. 

Can You Unlock A Chevy Silverado Door With A Hanger?

Now I have the most exciting method; the hanger method!

Using a hanger to open a chevy Silverado door might not be the easiest of tasks. You need a lot of patience and also some skills. It might not be the fastest and smoothest method to open the Chevy Silverado door, but when done correctly it will work. 

You will need to wrap the hanger wire with a cloth first. Then insert it through the window towards the lock on the door. Getting the wire to go that deep might be a bit difficult.

Once you are sure that the wire has reached the lock, you have to push down the wire around the lock and try to open the door handle in an upwards motion. Do this simultaneously, and the doors should open easily, 

Now, let’s say that you have power windows. The hanger method will be a bit different for you then. The first difference is that you will need two coat hangers instead of one.

Use one end of the wire to pry through to the window. Use the wire to separate the door frame and the window. Using both ends of the wires of another hanger, push down on the lock through the window. Do this on the passenger’s side.

Slim Jims For Unlocking Doors

Slim jim is an amazing product that can be used to open locked cars. It’s a soft piece of plastic that has been designed in the shape of a credit card. 

Using a slim jim is also very easy. Wrap the hook side around the lock through the window and pull it upwards. While doing this push the door handle simultaneously.

Can You Use Apps To Unlock Chevy Silverado?

Nowadays, modern-day vehicles can be unlocked using the manufacturer’s app. All you have to do is sign up to the app and pair your Chevy Silverado before hand.

Remember, unlocking the Chevy Silverado using an app will only work if the vehicle has been signed up and paired before being locked.
